Today, the shelves in the mall are full of dazzling goods, and shared bikes stand in long queue at the exit of the subway station.Excessive production capacity and rapid development of the most potentially-invested economy have caused the earth's limited resources to be overexploited and rapidly consumed.Where do those waste products, newspapers and magazines should go?This is a serious problem that we have to deal with, and what role can design play in this topic? This “ Designing Better Life” activity will be presented in the form of forums and exhibitions from the perspective of designers, and it tries to interpret and handle the issue. We hope more designers and media will pay attention to this topic.

Yiwen Bian

Yiwen Bian, from Zibo, Shandong Province, graduated from the Design Institute of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2019. She has won the nomination award of the Dean of Graduation Creation and the annual outstanding works award of the students of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Participated in the design studio Ticwatch X dial project and selected.

Silkworm spinning as cocoon is a kind of wrapping restraint. It refers to the self-closure and social isolation of the Hikikomori for more than half a year. It is a pathological social phenomenon that they are unwilling to show up for a long time and are passively avoiding the world in a self-closing room and indulging in virtual network life.

With the rapid development of today's society, the one-child policy which has affected the young people has made parents'expectation and comparison of their children more serious. The pressure from all aspects of society and living environment is one of the most fundamental psychological pressure faced by young people. Many young people need to find the corresponding one. Environment and personal coping style to alleviate or evade social pressure, make life become predictable and controllable, and then express their emotions, "powerlessness" and "delaying becoming a social person" the prelude to the entrapment gradually changed from recessive to dominant.

In Japan, it is said that there are more than 1 million people living in the same pressure society. I surveyed 1157 people nationwide, ranging in age from 15 to 65, covering different regions. Finally, I came to the conclusion that there are 7 people who are inclined to live, accounting for 0.6%, and all of them are young people aged 20 to 29. From this, we can see that quite a number of young people in China escape the serious phenomenon of social isolation.

So my work is mainly displayed in seven living video and the closed space made up of garbage. The garbage in the closed space is made up of stacked bricks. The upper and lower mirrors give the viewer a strong sense of extension. The viewer enters the space to experience the closed space where the people live as if they were depressed and sucked by garbage. Walking into the abyss, among these bricks, seven of them refer to the living conditions of the seven Hikikomori I investigated, and they are mixed in and submerged in many Hikikomori.

Sigita Truksane is sustainable and durable real newspapers handbags idea author. Sustainability, recycling, upcycling, support to art, zero waste lifestyle are her priorities. Fashion industry's disastrous impact on the environment that is the second largest polluter in the world and the fact that environmental damage is continuing to increase as the industry grows. This dramatic negative impact to the environment inspired Sigita to create upcycled handbags made from real newspapers and magazines to attract attention of the society and try to change their mindset and habits. Newspapers and magazines are media tool. Product user is wearing media tool and becomes an ambassador, influencer and spreads the idea about sustainable fashion, environment friendly lifestyle, recycling&upcycling and zero waste lifestyle. Handbags are made from newspapers and magazines printed starting from 19s century till nowadays. In the project are used magazines and newspapers from different areas as fashion, art, business, daily news, sports, cars and others. Besides upcycling idea, handbags have historical, cultural and art value. The handbags have prints -  drawings that are created by various new artists from Latvia, the country from which Sigita comes. Sigita started to work on business and educational project: upcycled and recycled fashion products made from textile, clothing leftovers and waste collected from China textile and clothing factories.
